General History

As many clubs have, ‘Sussex Bashers’ started in a park with a couple of friends back in 2008/2009. This grew quickly, and a Facebook club page was started. The club upgraded to a farmer’s field in Halland, which due to noise restrictions was relocated.

Sussex Bashers moved down the road to a more remote farm in Ringmer, in which we built a track from the scraps of floor boards, tires and any wood that our members could bring along.

Over the years the club has gone from strength to strength, with the introduction of the ‘My Laps’ system and the quality of driving, the club committee decided to revamp the track and re name ourselves as the Sussex RC Car Club. In 2017 the track had a whole new redesign and it’s still now evolving.

Our Facebook page has over 1000 members and is still growing. We know we will never have that amount of people at the track, but our membership has increased by between 5 and 10 each year and general ‘turn ups’ have also been up.

Events

Sussex RC Car Club hosts our own Challenge Cup each year with great success.
This event is a complete weekend with music, a BBQ, a raffle and racing, making likeminded friends and general track fun. We also have donations or prizes from various top RC stores. We make this a weekend for all the family, so all the wives, girlfriends and kids can enjoy, not just the racing but the general atmosphere of the weekend.
In 2017 we started a new class. “The Juniors” (under 14s).

We are so proud to have 5/6 juniors there at each track meet, battling it out. We admit, the etiquette wasn’t there to start with and there were some ‘fun’ moments for the marshals. However, over the period of a year, with the guidance from parents, the racing has got better and better. It’s always a highlight of the day watching them.

Each year over the bank holiday weekend, we carry out another Weekender in aid of REACH: ‘Helping children with upper limb differences live life without limits.’ Each year we have provided a cheque for around £600. Also having a junior with this disability, is it obviously very close to the clubs’ heart.

This again, is another family and friends’ weekend which has a very relaxed atmosphere with a tent disco, BBQ and raffle in the evening.
